Integral Spiritual Sunday: The Evolving Witness

Harvard Developmental Psychologist Robert Kegan nails the essence of human development with this insight:

“The subject of one level of development becomes the object of the subject of the next level.”

In other words, what we think of as “us”: our thoughts, our sensations, our emotions, our history, our identity, is something that we can witness as well as enact, and as we do we grow.   This is a call to practice.   In meditation, for instance, we see a feeling, say anger, as an it or series of it’s.  Instead of my anger, just … anger, arising in my body/mind as a fabric of thoughts and sensations.   Not me, but mine.

Through transformational practice we enlarge the witness — by witnessing it! — and once again what was subject becomes object(s) to a new bigger Subject, which we can capitalize because it always feels holy.   And that new  bigger subject is You, a larger dimension of yourself, which is essential your self being liberated into more space and flow.   So now You’re more you than ever, except with less grip and friction, enabling an ever-increasing flow of love, creativity and power.

On a good day, at least!

So let’s have a good day on Sunday with some exploration and  practice.   Stuart Davis will be here to shine his light on the topic as well.

Ascending Angels, Art by Claire J. Candry (2004)

In this Integral Spiritual Sunday, we explore a step in the transformative path, “Turning: The assent to a new direction.” What is it that makes us want to move in a new direction- to explore a new way of being? What triggers our agreement to change, aids us in the process, and keeps us moving? Through some simple practices and dialogues, we explore one aspect of  the mystery of change- the turning and assent to evolution.

Intro to Integral

Thursday, November 6th, 7 – 10pm
Suggested Donation: $15
Also on 12/11

  • Heard about the Theory of Everything?
  • Or evolutionary spirituality?
  • Married to a someone who talks about Ken Wilber and the AQAL models?
  • Or are you just bored to tears with the same old left vs right, good vs bad, yes vs no arguments we hear all around us?

Then check out Intro to Integral Theory and Practice, the class for people who want a quick, efficient download on the coolest new worldview in town.

Integral describes a philosophical system that seeks to include the gifts of all other worldviews:

  • The gifts of science and religion
  • The gifts of the East and the West,
  • The gifts of the Ancients, the Moderns, the Post-Moderns

The goal — and indeed the result — of this integration, is a view and a way of living that is larger, deeper, more flexible and wise. At Boulder Integral we recognize this as a new stage in the on-going evolution of consciousness and human culture, and seek to explore and enact it in our lives. We are pioneering the development of various kinds of integral practices, designed to help people become more aware, in touch, and capable of skillful action.

This three hour class focuses on the key element of Integral theory: evolution. We will show patterns of history that make sense of our human heritage, and also deeply inform and inspire smarter solutions to today’s global challenges. We will also map the stages of personal evolution that starts with each of us at birth, revealing insights, and indeed energetics, that accelerate our personal evolution in real time. Soon we’re surfing the rising wave of Emergence itself!

POSTPONED (originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 21st, 2009. 6-10pm)

  • Support the expression of differences, challenges or “rubs” between multiple pairs of people without a need for resolution
    • Understand conflict as the process of differentiation occurring through only one pair (or subgroup) of people
    • Facilitate toward expression of differences through more pairs of people
    • Avoid polarizations, fragmentation, scapegoating and other regressive versions of differentiation

  • Differentiate from the paradigm of separateness and from those beliefs and behaviors that do not serve us, our relationships or the whole

Amina Knowlan, creator of Matrix Leadership, and offered only to members of Boulder Integral, will lead this series of experiential trainings. The series will consist of four, 4-hour monthly sessions designed to complement our efforts at individual transcendence with new practices for sparking transcendence as an interconnected group.
