What does the common cold and flu have to do with adaptation, habituation, and healthy evolution? What does the cultivation of spontaneity have to do with immunity? How can understanding this positively change our relationship to getting sick, and reduce the illness of ‘fear of flu’ which is more pandemic than the flu itself? In this talk we will explore an alternate paradigm to the current germ theory, and look at it within the context of spiral dynamics and Chinese medicine.
This will not just be a theoretical presentation. We will explore within our bodies the mechanisms behind evolution, habituation, and spontaneity and how this directly relates to immunity and health. This presentation will also include some natural methods to both treat and prevent colds and flues.
If we are interested in living a truly integral life, then we are challenged to embody the mental, emotional, and physical aspects of the theories we love. This presentation will open a very profound conversation around how to do just this. The time for just thinking about it has passed, we must live it with every pore. Our very life depends on it. See you there.
You will learn:

“Senshi” means “warrior” in Japanese, and this is warrior training for your body, your mind, and your spirit. Becoming an accomplished athlete, artist, businessperson, or author requires discipline of practice. Our spiritual practice is no different.
Senshi Meditation takes seriously the idea that there is nothing more important in your life right now then waking up. Every minute spent asleep is another minute spent in bondage, in contraction, in ignorance, in servitude to old stories, patterns, and obsessions. This is a life and death practice, and we will take our seats as warriors dedicated to our path.
OVERVIEW
DETAIL
PROTOCOL
Will be explained before we seal the container of our group. Instruction will be provided for other activities at the appropriate time. No unnecessary speaking or eye contact during the hour of formal practice — this is a sacred space dedicated to our Awakening!
METHOD
Boulder, CO has many strengths, but a sharp and clear lineage of spiritual discipline, taught in an uncompromising way, is not one of them. While emotional processing, the honoring of all perspectives, and go-at-your-own pace models all serve our emerging, post-conventional selves, they can be toxic to the spiritual path. “There is a way between voice and presence where information flows. In disciplined silence it opens. With wondering talk it closes.” —Rumi
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Keith Martin-Smith began studying the Dharma in 1996, and took Red Tara Empowerment and Bodhisattva Vows with Lama Tsering Everest in 2001. In 2007 he met Jun Po Roshi and became a formal student of his, and was given the Dharma name “Ko Gen” (“Tiger Eye”). Keith/Kogen has been authorized by Jun Po Roshi to teach the Mondo Zen deconstruction/reconstruction protocol and meditation.
Kogen is also the most senior disciple and only lineage holder of Grandmaster Jeon Hoon Jeon, 3rd Generation White Tiger Master, and has been given the title of “Co-Master” in the instruction of Northern Shaolin Kung Fu and Qi Gong. He has been training since 1994 and teaching since 2003. His training in Kung Fu and Qi Gong is ongoing on the way to becoming a Master. He has also studied Jin Woo, Hung Gar, Wing Chun, and Jinqui Qi Gong.
“What is better, satisfying 1,000 desires or conquering one?”
INTEGRAL FRAME FOR THOSE INTERESTED
An absolutistic (Amber) frame for teaching has been used for millennia in spiritual and physical disciplines, but has been increasingly abandoned as we moved into modernity (Orange) and postmodernity (Green). But we are seeing in places like Boulder, CO, some of the problems when one throws out the Amber, hierarchical frame for teaching: namely, it is the most effective way to create change. Amber is wonderful at helping to break the body and the mind into a difficult discipline. Orange interpretations of these disciplines can focus too much on the status and ranking of the student, while Green interpretations are, among other problems, reluctant to force one kind of training and philosophy onto students. The result of the loss of Amber teaching methods applied to marital arts and spiritual practice has been a reduction in the quality of students and of their overall competency.
We can add Orange and Green emergent truths and understandings into pre-and-post practice structures, to honor the insights of those worldviews. But putting those structures into the Amber frame destroys the pressure that Amber has been so carefully formatted to create, and lengthens the entire process when it doesn’t destroy it utterly.

Psychotherapy in the 21st century is interdisciplinary in unprecedented ways. Healing systems from all quadrants and zones weave together in infinite constellations, each depending upon the unique alchemy of therapist, client, and the present moment.
Integrally informed psychotherapy considers healing from any direction, and cultivates compassion and depth of consciousness to support healthy perspectives and actions.
It further involves co-creating cultures in which the client and the client’s universe are cherished, each moment is experienced as a gift and an opportunity, and healthy beliefs and actions are considered beautiful, good, and true.
Integrally informed therapists cultivate second—and third—tier functioning by discerning states of healthy response to the present moment and defensive states, disidentifying from defenses, and identifying with states of healthy response. Healthy states tend to flow from interior and interpersonal attunements and are experienced in multifaceted ways including accepting curiosity, compassion, pure presence, Big Mind, Big Heart, or grateful joy.
Reaching for these states while consciously attuning to self and client from AQAL perspectives distinguishes Integrally Informed Psychotherapy from other forms, many of which implicitly attune from AQAL perspectives.
Integrally Informed therapists develop inner authority to perceive reality from a shifting landscape. They develop Natural Healing Styles blending their most authentic selves, their passions, and their deepest gifts, while being open to instantly change direction if the moment calls for it, even at high velocities.
Dr. Witt will explore these principles, related practices, and demonstrate clinical techniques in this lecture.
BIO: Dr Keith Witt (www.kwwitt.com): Author of, The Gift of Shame, The Attuned Family, Sessions, and Waking Up—a textbook on Integrally Informed therapy that Ken Wilber says he “very much likes”—offers 36 years of experience as a therapist, lecturer, and teacher. His article, Developmental Engagement Field Theory, can be found in the summer, 2009 edition of the Journal of Integral Theory and Practice. He has conducted over fifty thousand therapy sessions in Santa Barbara with individuals, couples, and families from all walks of life including the film and music industries, corporate management, information technologies, engineering, academia, the law, and a full spectrum of other cultures.
Dr. Witt is a licensed psychologist and marriage family therapist who has taught and practiced psychotherapy in Santa Barbara since 1973. He received his BA in psychology with honors from UCSB in 1973, his MA in Counseling Psychology from UCSB in 1975, and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The Fielding Institute in 1982. His dissertation exploring somatic psychotherapy was entitled an investigation of the effectiveness of talking plus touching in enhancing health.
In the last decade Keith has been synthesizing and applying Integral psychology, various teachings about the masculine and feminine, ascending and descending spiritual practices, developmental neurobiology, manifestation systems, and attachment research. This work has yielded classes, workshops, books, and clinical training organized around the principle that therapists best serve by discerning and enhancing their natural healing styles.

[Please note that the Alchemy of Loss Event has been canceled. "Bullets and Roses" is an introduction to the work of Alchemy of Loss/The Tapestry Initiative & Janet Graff as was planned originally to be presented at the seminar]
How can a person find peace, compassion, and even joy, in the face of huge loss that naturally provokes deep sadness, raging anger, and other devastating emotions? Janet and her family lost their son/brother/grandson when he was shot to death last year while defending her. He was only 21, yet already had a deep sense of his life purpose…
Janet will share how her very painful loss has changed her and made her more genuine, more compassionate, and more forgiving. She will illustrate how vulnerability can strengthen a person and deepen their connection to the world. She will attempt not to hide behind academic and analytical frameworks (her professional strengths) since she has discovered that there is extraordinary insight and joy to be gained in coming from a humble place of not knowing.
All are welcome to this heart-opening event!
