The Intro to Integral Theory and Practice is a class for people who want a quick, efficient download on the emerging worldview that seeks to integrate the gifts of all other worldviews:
The goal — and indeed the result — of this integration, is a view and a way of living that is larger, deeper, more flexible and wise. At Boulder Integral we recognize this as a new stage in the on-going evolution of consciousness and human culture, and seek to explore and enact it in our lives. Through the Integral Incubator and other programs, we are pioneering the development of various kinds of integral practices, designed to help people become more aware, in touch, and capable of skillful action.
This four-hour class focuses on the key element of Integral theory: evolution and Ken Wilber’s five main aspects of reality, commonly taught as “AQAL.” We will show patterns of history that make sense of our human heritage, and also deeply inform and inspire smarter solutions to today’s global challenges. We will also map the stages of personal evolution that starts with each of us at birth, revealing insights, and indeed energetics, that accelerate our personal evolution in real time. Soon we’re surfing the rising wave of Emergence itself!
Intro to Integral Theory and Practice is taught by Jeff Salzman, co-founder of Boulder Integral and leader of the Integral Incubator, and Nomali Perera, longtime integral life practitioner, and certified Integral Coach.

Jeff Salzman is lead teacher at Boulder Integral as well as part of the founding circle. He is co-founder of CareerTrack Training, and has worked in adult education / transformation for twenty five years. For three years Jeff worked side by side with Ken Wilber building the Integral Institute, an international center for integral theory and application. A Divinity School dropout, he has a Masters Degree in Indo-Tibetan Studies from Naropa University. Jeff is devoted to the Integral Worldview and to helping it arise in people’s mind/bodies through the world of Boulder Integral. At the present time Jeff is the primary benefactor of our enterprise and is responsible for the programming at our center. He can be reached at jeff@boulderintegral.org.
Nomali Perera is a member of the founding circle of Boulder Integral. She manages events and general operations, with a keen eye for the look and feel of the center. Bitten by the integral bug, Nomali moved from Sri Lanka to Boulder, Colorado in 2002. She has a BA in Contemplative Psychology & Religious Studies from Naropa University, an MA in Nonprofit Management from Regis University, Denver, and recently graduated as a certified Integral Coach from Integral Coaching Canada. Prior to her current position at Boulder Integral, Nomali worked at Ken Wilber’s Integral Institute. She can be reached at nomali@boulderintegral.org.

WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND THE INTEGRAL INCUBATOR
To claim your next stage of development and career success
One of the key markers of integral consciousness is that we are able to take an evolutionary view. We begin to see ourselves as an evolving beings in an evolving world. This single insight changes everything.
First of all it, enables us to relax a bit, because we can see that in addition to living our lives, we are being lived by a larger Life. We feel ourselves riding streams of history that appear to be going somewhere ever-more awake and powerful. Second, as we realize ourselves to be evolving beings, we can begin to ask very interesting questions such as: what’s next in my own personal evolution? In my career? In my relationships? In the evolution of the world at large, and my role in its evolution?
Evolution denotes transformational growth. In other words, we see that there are not just new things to know but new ways of knowing. That there are not just new things to do but new ways of doing. And that these new ways of thinking and acting multiply our effectiveness. This is our starting point at the Integral Incubator, and each part of the 5-day process is designed to help participants realize and stabilize their next stage of development, especially as it relates to their work.
To more fully realize your destiny
As we realize our ability to co-create with the the power of emergence itself, we naturally turn our attention to achieving our unique destiny. That may sound a little grandiose, but it is quite literally true, and as evolutionaries we feel it deeply. That’s why so many integralists seem like they’re on a mission from God. Because they see — and feel — that they quite literally are.
But there is another side to it, as well. At integral consciousness we also see that although we are human beings gifted with great vision and calling, we are also works in progress, and that, paradoxically, a lot of the road forward involves realizing how, to use a beautiful religious term, broken we are. Not in the sense that something is wrong with us, but that there are indeed parts of ourselves that are appalling: our selfishness, our grudges, our suffering, the seven deadly sins and more. But now we begin to see that this is the way it should be, and that part of our job as evolutionaries is to bring our dark aspects into the light. We see that by being friendly with them we have a chance at metabolizing them into health and creativity, kind of like a fusion reactor, which lights us up and powers us to do what we are undeniably here to do.
To be with your peeps and peers
It has always been true, as humanity has evolved, that people at the edge of development seek out other pioneers. One of the great benefits of the Integral Incubator is that we get to hang out with other people who get us, who vibrate to the same chords, who see the new territories we see, and who want to explore them with us.
This has very practical and positive consequences. When we are seen and known more deeply by other people, we are able to better see and know ourselves. We have easier access to new dimensions of our own creativity and passion, we find strength we didn’t know we had, and we able to act in the world with greater skill and confidence.
A big part of the Integral Incubator is creating we-spaces among the participants and relationships that support each person’s growth. We will do this both in free-form café settings, but also in large- and small-group processes, as well as group meditation and movement practices. People who have attended events with other Integralists often note a higher level of group functioning that is unparalleled outside integral circles. As one of Boulder Integral’s member wrote about a salon we held recently, “I experience magic when conversing with people about integral ideas.” So, yes, one of the greatest payoffs of attending the Incubator is that we get to be with our tribe, and that is a terrific end in itself.
A chance to work with Ken Wilber, the world’s leading integral theorist
Ken’s public appearances are few and far between, which makes it all the more precious have our group be able to spend an afternoon with him. Ken is not just an historically significant philosopher, he is an accomplished businessperson and, having founded several of the most enduring organization of the integral age, including Integral Institute, Integral Naked and Integral Life. He has great practical skills as well as theoretical insight, and will share them with us in person.
TYPICAL DAILY EVENTS
Each day is different at the Integral Incubator, but here is the general plan we will follow:
Transformational practices to boost your vertical growth
Meditation: Think of meditation as the calisthenics of building the muscles of attention. The ability to focus and direct one’s attention is key to our effectiveness in manifesting tangible results in the world. It helps us to stay focused on our work, which is key to entering flow, that place where genius is accessed and we become our most powerful selves.
Movement and energy work: We will work with various integrations of dance, energy practices such as chi-gong, and free movement. The goal is to get in deeper touch with the various energies of your mind and body, and express them into the world with vibrancy, beauty and skill.
Physical Exercise: We encourage and make time for physical exercise at the Incubator. There is an exercise session each morning at the Incubator. Depending on your project and according your needs, you may also enjoy outdoor activities. The North Boulder Park is close by, as are the hiking trails of the foothills. Our center is also very close to the North Boulder Recreation Center where there is a swimming pool, weight room, etc of international standard.
Planning and power-building sessions help you stay on track
Are you laying a brick, building a wall, or constructing a cathedral? At integral consciousness you are doing all three, and to the degree that you maintain contact with each, the more powerful your are in the world and the more joy you receive from your work. At the Integral Incubator, you will have ample time to contemplate and plan your day for maximum productivity and impact.
Focused work periods where you make real progress on your project
For several periods each day, participants will enter their choice of heightened work spaces to work on the project that they have brought.
Private coaching and consulting for help with specific issues
Participants may also dedicate specific periods of the day to working with an array of integral experts on staff here at Boulder Integral, on issues from business planning to personal growth and health. We also have body and energy therapists available for private sessions.
Group work, for camaraderie and support
You will check in with colleagues throughout the day, both in small groups and in the group at large. This is an important chance to share your achievements and challenges, get feedback and state your intentions for moving forward.
Practice in self-expression and communication, to help you influence people and manifest your dream
A crucial element of success is the ability to communicate your ideas quickly and on-demand. At the Integral Incubator
we will work with you on accessing your unique voice, and communicating your vision in a way that magnetizes people and creates the support you need to achieve your dreams. Think Toastmasters on steroids.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO INTEGRAL POLARITY PRACTICE
John Kesler has developed a meditation and awareness practice which he has named integral polarity practice (IPP). It is grounded in the big mind process, in which John was one of the first to be certified as a large group facilitator by Zen master, Genpo Roshi, the founder of the process. The big mind process enables a person to access non-dual awareness or big mind and other transcendent states of awareness through an application of voice dialogue, a Jungian therapeutic technique. John integrally informed the big mind process with developmental and other integral perspectives as well as other aspects drawn from other spiritual traditions particularly his own Mormon tradition. Ultimately, by John inhabiting a new world space created by all of the above, IPP essentially flowed out of him in the context of facilitating others and his own practice over a number of years. IPP makes no assertions that it is an exclusive path, but rather IPP provides a rich meditative and awareness practice which can complement any approach to life or spiritual practice.
IPP reflects an understanding of human psychology, eastern and western perspectives, and tantric practice which appears to be unique. As Ken Wilber the leading philosopher who has perhaps the most comprehensive grasp of the traditions of both East and West has commented:
There is nobody doing more leading-edge work on the integration of Eastern and Western approaches to consciousness and growth than John Kesler. His fully integral approach includes conventional and contemplative dimensions of psychology and spirituality, spanning body and mind and spirit and shadow, a truly remarkable and effective approach. I give his work my highest recommendation.
In addition John has explored and charted how aspects of energy and consciousness show up in archetypal polarities through the entire spectrum of human development. As Susanne Cook-Greuter, perhaps the leading researcher and scholar of higher ranges of human development has observed:
John Kesler has created the richest matrix that covers development through the whole spectrum of consciousness from birth through personal individuation into the heart of Big Mind. Kesler provides exquisite detail within an elegant and comprehensive structure. His polarity map illuminates the still points between polar opposites at 20 or so junctures along the way. By clarifying just what the fundamental tensions are he has deepened our understanding of human development and experience in a profound way.
Also very distinctive in this practice is the discovery of the same five themes which pervade every aspect and dimension of life experience. The five themes are physical / gross, relational / subtle, aware / causal, the ground out of which the three themes emerge, and their integrated expression. Through IPP life become an aesthetic experience of the integration, interpenetration and flow of the themes.
In any event IPP tends to be a practice which engages the person on multiple levels, triggering differentiation through more discriminating awareness and moving toward integration and transformation, with the impact over time of increasing awareness and capacity in multiple dimensions.
BIO: John was co-director of a non-denominational meditation center with Diane Hamilton and was director of the official meditation center for the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He was a founding teacher of the Integral Spiritual Center and its successor organization, the Integral Life Spiritual Center. John is a visiting teacher for I Evolve Global Practice Community and Pacific Integral.
In addition to sharing IPP, John is an attorney and social activist. He writes, lectures and consults regarding integral approaches to social and political change. John was a founding member of the politics section of the Integral Institute, and is founder and chair of the Salt Lake Center for Engaging Community, a non-profit which mentors communities on integral approaches to community flourishing in a global environment.
John and his wife currently serve as “service missionaries” in the inner city of Salt Lake City, for the Mormon Church working with those affected by abuse, gangs, drugs, homelessness and poverty.
