There should be plenty to discuss as the story’s hero, Christopher McCandless, was a fascinating person that showcased some of the brightest and darkest aspects of the masculine quest for freedom. What does modern masculinity bring to the table? What has it left behind? What can wilderness therapy and/or vision questing offer to the men of today?
Freshly graduated from college with a promising future ahead of him, McCandless walked out of his privileged life and into the wild in search of adventure. What happened to him on the way transformed this young wanderer into an enduring symbol for countless people — a fearless risk-taker who wrestled with the precarious balance between man and nature.
